Rotary is committed to developing the next generation of leaders of business, science, and the community. Fundamental to this commitment are our youth programs such as RYPEN (Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment) and RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) and the University of Newcastle’s National Science and Engineering Challenge.
- RYPEN helps young people build confidence, resilience and teamwork skills through engaging activities and personal challenges.
- RYLA empowers emerging leaders to develop their leadership potential, strengthen communication skills and build lasting networks.
- The National Science and Engineering Challenge helps students develop problem-solving, teamwork and critical thinking skills while challenging traditional perceptions of science and engineering
All of these programs provide life-changing experiences that encourage personal growth, community involvement and leadership development. If you or your child is ready for the challenge to stretch themselves, unlock their potential, and make new connections we encourage you to contact us to learn more.

Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN)
RYPEN is one of Rotary’s core youth development programs, designed to help young people build confidence, resilience, communication skills, and a sense of personal direction.
RYPEN is ideal for young people who are:
- Aged 14–16.
- Open‑minded and eager to learn.
- Showing emerging leadership qualities or needing a confidence boost.
- Capable but under‑confident, or needing opportunities to grow socially.
- Ready to meet new people and try new challenges.
Importantly, participants do not need to be “leaders” already — just willing to participate.
RYPEN camps are available in summer at the Narrabeen Sydney Academy of Sport & Recreation, and in winter at the Katoomba Christian Convention Centre in the Blue Mountains.

Applications for 2027 will open in November 2026
Please note: these camps do not include religious instruction or content and are focused purely on helping participants develop personal confidence, improved self-image, leadership and communication skills.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA)
RYLA is a high‑impact leadership development program for young people aged 18–30 years who have been out of school for at least one year. The program is delivered through a 7 day residential retreat.
Participants learn communication, teamwork, ethics, resilience, and practical leadership — guided by expert facilitators, community leaders, and Rotary mentors.
RYLA aims to help young people:
- Build communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Discover strategies for becoming dynamic leaders in school, work, and community.
- Learn from community leaders, inspirational speakers, and peer mentors.
- Unlock their potential to turn motivation into action.
- Form lasting friendships and networks
The 2027 RYLA program is scheduled for 10-17 January 2027 at the King’s School (Linfield NSW).
