Introduction
Transitional Community Housing, works to bridge the gap for women in in the Central Coast who are falling through the cracks of the housing market. Working with professional partners, our support provides dignity, and stability in the community, as they build a future and secure long-term housing.
This new program, working in conjunction with Coast Shelter, provides subsidised transitional housing for older women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. Many of these women are escaping from domestic violence.
How the program works
The Rotary Club of Woy Woy, through its associated not-for-profit business, Transitional Community Housing Ltd, secures rental properties for individual women and takes out the head lease. We pay the rent for periods up to 12 months, guarantee landlord payments and provide any required property management services. We also provide and/or coordinate assistance to the women from community organisations. It’s about time, space, dignity and support to allow the women to turn their lives around.
Coast Shelter plays an important role in identifying eligible participants, organising government support payments, as well as case management support to the tenants in moving to longer term housing stability.
The first woman supported by this new club program moved into her accommodation on the Peninsula in late July 2026 and since then assisted three vulnerable women. The next stages of this project will involve sourcing additional rental properties for eligible older women.
The benefits for women supported by the program are:
- Secure accommodation until longer term housing solutions can be arranged.
- Support services for guidance on personal and financial issues.
- A positive rental track record based on their sub-lease performance.
How you can help
The program is currently fully funded by Rotary, all members of the team are volunteers and 100% of funds raised are allocated to the program’s activities. Our expansion will be reliant on additional funding and volunteers to help our club provide wrap around support services to the women.
Support could include:
- Tax deductible donations to Transitional Community Housing Ltd.
- Participation in our planned fund-raising events.
- Volunteer services to help support the women.
- Sourcing of affordable accommodation for a single women – apartment, granny flat or a small house available for periods up to 12 months.
